Tired of paying rent every month while the dream of your own roof stays unfulfilled? That is the story of millions of families across Punjab — they own a small plot, but have no money to build on it.
The answer is the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Scheme — the Punjab government’s interest-free housing loan program. Fresh figures show 214,302 families have received loans, Rs 278.46 billion has been disbursed, and 120,753 homes stand completed. This guide covers eligibility, loan categories, the apply process and repayment — everything in one place.
About the Scheme
Apni Chhat Apna Ghar (ACAG) is the Punjab government’s flagship housing program, launched in August 2024 by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Instead of handing out ready-built houses, the government gives interest-free loans so families can build on land they already own — the way they need it. The program runs on three models: housing on government land, housing through private housing schemes, and direct interest-free loans for land owners (the model most families use). On 5 October 2026, the program won the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour in Muscat — global recognition for affordable housing.
Latest Update — Rs 278 Billion Disbursed (October 2026)
On 6 October 2026, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari shared the latest progress: 214,302 interest-free loans issued, over Rs 278.46 billion disbursed, 120,753 homes completed and 60,464 more under construction. She also presented live videos of beneficiary families.
A day earlier, on 5 October 2026, CM Maryam Nawaz received the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour in Muscat for this program — international recognition for Punjab’s flagship housing initiative. The government targets 500,000 homes in five years.
